Roots Garden Center is located in Billings, Montana and is owned and operated by Jon and Karen Switzer, who opened the garden center in 2021 to serve the Billings community with a mix of plants, garden supplies, gifts, and home and garden goods. The space was originally opened in the 1960’s as Salsbury’s Greenhouse, and later acquired by Billings Nursery before their operations moved to another location in the early 2000’s. The property sat vacant intermittently during the 2000’s and 2010’s, prior to the Switzer family opening Roots Garden Center in 2021. The Switzer’s also acquired Karen’s family’s landscaping business in 2017, rebranding it as Switzer Landscaping which successfully operates alongside the garden center. The Switzer’s have truly brought a third space to the Billings community through their thoughtfully designed retail space that includes artful displays and a cafe. The significant landscape experience the owners have transfers right over to the retail space and reflects a strong focus on creating an engaging and enjoyable shopping space and experience for their community.
